You tied everything together very well in this post. I agree that one person truly can make a difference, and unfortunately bad things can come of that one person. Like you pointed out, many people from the past have changed history, and I think all of them were heroes to at least one other person.

I think that sometimes, people don't realize that heroes can be everyday people. There are so many people who have died who aren't recognized as heroes by the mass public. I don't think it's necessary, or even possible, for the mass public to see that someone is a hero, but I'm sure that everyone has at least one person who is a hero to them.

I think that Roland is a hero to Vera, and possibly the men he was with, but he probably isn't a hero to the mass public. And that is perfectly fine. He is still a hero.

Heroism in my mind is doing something for the betterment of humanity that puts you above the rest. There can be many types of heros for many different things. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the many.

I could also argue that Hitler was a hero in some people's eyes. I do not believe he was, but because it is all in perception, i am sure there are some out there who believe he was martyr, and a man of integrity.

Is Roland a hero? Perhaps. He did save the lives of some of his troops, and he did love Vera, so i guess that in its own right makes him a hero.

I enjoyed reading all of your posts....you have a gift.
